Fritzi-Massary-Park
The Fritzi-Massary-Park is located in Vienna's 2nd district between the Prater and the Danube, on the corner of Offenbachgasse and Engerthstrasse. The project was initiated by Social Design of the University of Applied Arts and aims to offer people in the neighbourhood more open spaces close to their homes with quality of stay and recreational character, thus contributing to the promotion of neighbourliness and living together.
The structural redesign of the park is based on the principles of the circular economy and thus encourages a sustainable design of public space. Many material resources from the existing stock (e.g. historic bricks, steel fences, granite blocks) were recombined, recycled or reused in the planning process. Steel tubes from discarded standard park benches were reimagined as modular elements, creating a growing variety of sustainable street furniture.
